Being a Leader

Whether this is your first senior manager or Chief Executive role, or you want to define and deepen your leadership prescence, together we explore and determine how you will establish yourself in your role and achieve your outcomes for success. Our coaching relationship is based on deep trust as we consider multiple perspectives, options and approaches to identify what changes you need to make to lead as yourself and how you will sustain them.

My experience as a senior manager means I appreciate the challenges and complexities of managing people, stakeholders and systems! My deep experience in organisational change management provides a framework for my compassion and candour about different perspectives on change, resistance to change and the importance of persistence! I will walk beside you as you navigate changes and manage and develop yourself in the process.

As a trained career coach, I can also offer a range of tools and experiences to work with you to explore and clarify where and how you will best maintain your motivation and  fulfill your professional and personal purpose.

A Client's Story

As a previously highly successful project manager in the construction industry, my client’s change of industry sector to a Not For Profit had not gone well.  When setting up the coaching program, his manager described how he was perceived as abrupt and lacking in interest in his colleagues and was being deliberately excluded from discussions and decisions where his expertise and previous experience would have been useful. During the coaching program he explored how he kept himself as a person out of his work as a professional and how that meant he was unable to relate to and therefore influence and effectively work with his colleagues. By the end of the coaching program he had awareness and courage to change. His working performance metrics and working relationships both improved.

Testimonial

"My experience of accessing Ann for executive coaching has been a huge learning journey and an incredible adventure which I know will hold me in good stead for my professional future.

I am employed in a team leader role as a mental health nurse managing the mental health services for a global telehealth company.  It has been my goal to continue to develop professionally and be able to progress to a more senior management role in the business.

Since working with Ann, I have developed insight into the areas which I am professionally strong and the areas which I can learn and further develop, to achieve my professional goals. She has guided and educated me on different types of management styles, which is best suited to me, and how to communicate with influence at an executive level, hence ensuring that I am heard."

Leadership Insights and Impact

To provide clients with valuable insights about recurring patterns which when changed or enhanced, lead to greater personal impact and improvements in performance and results, I use Harrison Assessment. Improvements and changes to these behaviours are then identified and established through the coaching program.

As an accredited Harrison Assessment debriefer, I use this tool with leaders who are starting in a new or changed leadership role or who have had limited leadership development support. Harrison Assessment provides feedback on role suitability for senior management selection and development. It also provides information about the 12 key and complementary behaviours that are critical for effective leadership. These are useful to inform a coaching program for successful transition into a new leadership role.

Some Examples
  • Using Harrison Assessment to support recruitment of six Tier 2 roles by assessing short listed candidates on their role suitability especially for leadership and also providing suggestions for areas to explore with the candidate and referees. An individual debrief is provided for successful candidates to inform their future development focus to improve and be successful in the role.

  • Working with a first time Chief Executive whose senior executive team included previous peers and competitors for the role. Using Harrison to identify where challenges with leading may arise and developing options and approaches to ensure success in the role. This then informed a follow up coaching program.
